New England Legal Foundation (NELF) Now Accepting Cryptocurrency Donations; Some Donors Cite Tax Advantages in Contributing Now, as Crypto Values Decline

BOSTON – The New England Legal Foundation (NELF), the leading non-profit public interest law firm in the region dedicated to addressing issues of law and policy related to free enterprise, is now accepting tax-deductible cryptocurrency donations. Through a “Donate Crypto” link on NELF’s website (www.newenglandlegal.org), donors can contribute using any of seven popular crypto types, including the four largest (by market cap): Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), and USD Coin (USDC).

NELF President Dan Winslow said recently, “As we approach the end-of-the-year giving season, and as certain crypto values are declining, some NELF donors are telling us of the additional advantage in taking the tax deduction based on the dollar value of the contribution at the time of its donation, before any further decline in its value.”  The NELF website assigns a US dollar value to each crypto donation at the time of the donation based on generally available public values of a particular cryptocurrency.  Early donations of cryptocurrency yield greater charitable deduction values as cryptocurrencies value declines.

“People who invest in cryptocurrency are very aligned with NELF’s mission of advancing free enterprise, property rights, limited government based on rule of law, and inclusive growth,” noted Winslow, “so we are excited to offer them the option to support our work by donations of cryptocurrency.”
