NELF Leadership Transitions for Further Growth

BOSTON (August 23, 2024)– After completing his three year contract with the New England Legal Foundation, NELF President Dan Winslow plans to transition to a new role as President and CEO of the New Hanover Community Foundation, based in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he will oversee the $1.3 billion community endowment tasked with social impact investing and grantmaking of $50 to 60 million annually to advance the organization’s four pillars of social and health equity, community safety, development, and education.  It is the second largest endowment in the state of North Carolina, after the Duke Foundation, and one of the largest community foundations in the United States.

“Dan Winslow has reinvigorated the New England Legal Foundation with new energy and purpose and has built a talented Operations team focused on Membership & Events, Development, Finance, Communications, and Administration, along with the Legal team, that has created a sustainable vision and path for our organization to scale and expand its impact in the region,” said NELF Board Chair Tim Parilla, Chief Legal Officer of LinkSquares in Boston. “NELF is in great shape, growing in revenue and reach, and poised to continue its success thanks to Dan’s leadership, the support of our members and sponsors, and our amazing team. While we will miss Dan’s many talents, we know he will accomplish great things in his new role and wish him well.”

Winslow plans to transition from NELF through the end of the year to take the CEO role on October 1 and then consult with NELF on a pro bono basis for the following three months while assisting in the transition and helping to coordinate the search for his successor. NELF has engaged Isaacson Miller to recruit next-level executive leadership for the organization. In the meantime, NELF plans to announce an Interim President to preside over the organization starting on October 1 to allow a nationwide search for its next President.

“I have loved every minute of making a difference in the cause of economic liberty and I have seen the value of our advocacy for free enterprise and the rule of law,” said Winslow, “The NELF organization is strong and poised for further greatness as the Equalizer Institute readies for official launch next year. The team, sponsors, members, and supporters made a difference every day and I know their success will increase in measure and consequence. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served this important organization.”
