New England Legal Foundation (NELF) Appoints Meghan Lapp of Seafreeze, Ltd. to its Rhode Island Advisory Council

BOSTON – Meghan Lapp, the fisheries liaison for Seafreeze Ltd., the largest producer and trader of sea-frozen seafood on the U.S. East Coast, and Seafreeze Shoreside, one of the largest fish houses in Point Judith, RI, has been appointed to the Rhode Island Advisory Council of the New England Legal Foundation (NELF, www.newenglandlegal.org), the leading non-profit public interest law firm in the region.

Seafreeze operates two freezer trawlers out of North Kingstown, RI, that harvest species such as squid, mackerel, butterfish and herring. Seafreeze Shoreside unloads fresh product from several company-owned vessels as well as independent vessels from up and down the East Coast. Ms. Lapp is also a member of the New England Fishery Management Council’s Herring and Habitat Advisory Panels, a member of the Mid Atlantic Fishery Management Council’s Mackerel, Squid, Butterfish Advisory Panel and Ecosystems and Ocean Planning Advisory Panel, and a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s  Menhaden Advisory Panel.

“Our state Advisory Councils,” NELF President Dan Winslow noted, “help develop our Foundation’s positions on public policy matters, and they often recommend legal advocacy for consideration by our Board of Directors on issues of importance to the region’s economy. The Advisory Councils also host speakers of interest to their particular sector of the economy at locations convenient to members in each state.”

Winslow praised Ms. Lapp adding, “Having Meghan on our Rhode Island Advisory Council with her role as guardian of one of New England’s most important industries significantly adds to NELF’s ability to address issues of law and policy related to free enterprise.”
